For women who have suffered with acne since their teens and they continue to suffer through adulthood. Middle age women take heart! Acne be gone! It will be your time to finally ditch the acne. But in the meantime what causes women to deal with acne for so many years?

Hormonal imbalances are mostly responsible for acne in adult women, and God knows us women have a lot of hormone imbalances! Premenstrual, menses, pregnancy, and child birth all affect our hormones. We spend half our life on the hormone rollercoaster. And with that rollercoaster ride comes the dreaded acne.

If thats not enough oestrogen and testosterone imbalances can easily occur from stress or medication. Something as simple as having an IUD device or taking Depo Provera, both methods of birth control, can lead to acne.

When the hormones are out of balance your body produces extra sebum which is any oily secretion of the skin. This clogs the pores and causes those dreaded zits.

Some women never have a pimple until they hit their thirties. Talk about a real shock. This usually occurs when they decide its time to go off the pill. Birth control helps balance hormones and for many it keeps acne at bay. So it may not be that they were ever immune to acne just that its been so long they never realized they would have pimples.

Some vitamins can also cause acne. Vitamin B supplements and Vitamin E creams are known to cause acne break outs. On the other hand taking zinc orally has shown positive effects to eliminate acne in studies.

There are other conditions that are often mistaken for acne. Conditions such as acne rosacea, keratosis, or perioral dermatitis are often confused as acne. If you are unsure what you are dealing with make an appointment to see your dermatologist.

There are three major reasons why adult women suffer from acne: the pill; antibiotics; and vitamin A.

Long term antibiotic use causes us to develop a yeast infection which lowers the bodys immune system and defences which can result in acne.

Vitamin A treatments such as Retinol-A are double edge sword. Initially they can cause outbreaks, but over time they will effectively remove damaged layers of skin including acne scars, as well as get the skin to form collagen which give you younger looking skin.

Interesting by the time women reach their mid 40s they can almost be guaranteed to become acne free. Its believed that our female hormones have mellowed some by then, and we arent on the hormone rollercoaster anymore. This is a welcome change for many women!

If youre younger youll just have to find an acne medicine that works and wait for your mid 40s to arrive. See theres something good about being over 40.

The main thing is not to let your acne control your life. There are plenty of treatment options to try and just persist until you find the one that works!

What is acne? To define, it is a dermatological term that encompasses clogged pores, lumps and pimples that normally occur on various parts of the human body, such as the face, chest, upper arms and back. Acne shows up in many different varieties. The majority of them are not considered to be threatening to the life of the diseased, but the more severe cases can prove to be disfiguring.

It is attempted, here, to inspect and dispel the misinformation contained in a few of the most common myths about acne.

Myth 1: Acne occurs to teenagers only. Wrong. Although acne mostly affects teenagers, specifically those between the ages 12 and 17, it is, in fact, not limited to any age group. Acne can even badly affect adults in their forties. It is worth noting here that, although acne afflicts boys and girls alike, young men tend to have long-term and severe acne. On the other hand, women are more likely to have intermittent occurrence of acne due to hormonal changes.

Myth 2: Poor hygiene is a direct cause of acne. Washing and cleaning affected areas does not normally help cure acne. In fact, washing and scrubbing harshly and too frequently can irritate the skin in the diseased spots and worsen the case. However, proper and wise hygiene can really help lessen the effects. Washing the face twice to three times a day with a mild soap is recommended, patting it dry afterwards, rather than scrubbing it dry. This is most effective if combined with the use of acne treatment products.

Myth 3: Diet is a direct cause of acne. Not true. Scientists have conducted extensive scientific research, in search of possible correlations between man’s diet and the breakout of acne. Nothing conclusive has ever been found. As witnessed, however, the effect of diet is different with different people. If some sort of food or drink is suspected to have a direct effect on acne, it is recommended to experiment with cutting back and then inspect the result.

Myth 4: Acne will go away by itself. Again, this is generally untrue. It is possible to investigate the myriad of acne treatment products available today to see what works best, although, in some cases, it is best to consult a dermatologist.

Myth 5: Popping zits will clear up acne faster. On the contrary, this act can prolong and aggravate the situation and slow down the process of healing. Popping the whitehead, actually, pushes the bacteria deeper into the skin and can cause more infection to develop, eventually, increasing the possibility of scarring.

Myth 6: Tanning dismisses acne. People can be led to believe this. Truth be told, however, the opposite is true. The reason people tend to believe that tanning is useful in this case is that sunbathing may mask or cover the acne, giving an impression of an overall improved complexion. In reality, the sun dries the skin and irritates it, leading to more future breakouts.

The above-discussed myths have been included to serve as an introduction to the subject of acne and the list is by no means exhaustive. Their inclusion was for the sole purpose of educating the reader on the subject and perhaps arouse their curiosity to do some investigation in order to filter out facts from myths.

If you have acne you are probably wondering what the best ways of going about beating it are. Chances are you have tried a whole bunch of mainstream products such as Clean and Clear that cost obscene amounts of money and offer little hope to those suffering from the depressing and frustrating skin condition known as acne. No matter what type of acne you have or where on your body it is located, there are ways you can cure it without ever setting foot in the skin products section of your local drugstore or grocery store. Acne sufferers know that vicious cycle all too well. Buy the expensive product, go home, try it out only to be disappointed in a couple weeks. There are indeed fast home remedies for acne available to you.

First let’s examine what might be causing you acne, because once you know what causes it, that is half the battle. Most often acne is caused when excess amounts of oils enter the skin pores and they become clogged. It’s healthy for you skin to retain a certain amount of oil, but when it becomes too much for your pores to handle, acne appears. Another reason for acne might be a hormonal imbalance within the body, which usually occurs during pregnancy and puberty when hormone levels are most imbalanced and out of whack. Poor hygiene and diet can also effect your skin, despite what some may say. By eating a nutritious diet you are doing a favor for both your skin and body.

Now let’s look at some quick home remedies. There is always baking soda which works good mixed with water. This acts just like a scrub that you might purchase in the store, but it is less expensive and probably already in your kitchen. Just mix it with some water and apply it to the effected areas, letting it sit for about 30 seconds or so. You can also apply ice to the effected areas. The ice doesn’t so much get rid of the acne itself as it does reduce swelling which can be a major problem for some and a huge relief once it is gone. Research home remedies more and find out which ones work for you.

Acne - a skin condition that only a few escapes can be extremely embarrassing for someone suffering from it. But although it is very nearly inevitable, with a handful tips on proper maintenance of skin, diet, hair and little physical exercise you can prevent acne or stop further spread of the inflammation. From common sense to amazing do-it-yourself remedies, here are 5 tips to keep a clear and blemish free skin.

1. The very basic yet the most important in acne prevention measure is to wash your face. Gentle washing of the face twice everyday removes excess oil from the surface of the skin that causes breakouts. Wash your face with lukewarm water (not hot, which could further irritate acne) and a soap (sulfur-based) once early morning and again at night before going to bed. Don’t scrub it, a smooth touch in circle motions is most advisable. After cleansing, rinse completely and pat your skin to dry. Twice a day is enough, overly doing it will bring more problem than solve your acne, since it may irritate and dry you skin.

2. Drinking six to eight glasses of water a day is a good start as well. When your body gets sufficient moisture from the inside, it could clean itself easier, it allows your skin to stay smooth and healthy and improves your skin tone and texture. Water also aids in stimulating cell growth and strains out undesirable substances which harm your skin. Drink green tea foster more cleansing of your body from the inside out. While applying green tea oil in gel and cream directly onto the skin will help cure and prevent acne at the source since it kills the acne bacteria.

3. Although diet is not the primary cause of acne, it contributes to the state of acne. A healthy diet can help keep clear skin and prevent breakouts. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables daily, consume food high in fiber and are low fat. Some vitamins like Vitamin A protect your skin and lessen your chances of developing acne by reducing oil secretion of the sebaceous glands. Taking chromium supplement once a day will heal your pimples faster. Some expert says that cutting down on sugar, caffeine and flour is also a good way to prevent acne.

4. Your hair and hair care products contain oils. When you move, dust particles mix up with your hair, and as it touches your face and neck or any affected areas your acne could worsen. It is advisable to keep hair away from those acne-prone areas. When you use hair sprays remove their oily residues from the face immediately. Also wash your hair on a daily basis.

5. Apart from these, exercise moderately as it helps eliminate toxins, reduce stress, balance hormones and increase blood circulation and oxygen to the skin. The sweat as a result of the exercise is known to assist in cleaning skin pores and in reducing acne.

Over time you will discover that prevention is truly the best acne medicine. And by following these tips, not only will you be acne free but you will have more energy, feel better, and enjoy a long and healthy life.

One of the problems with benzoyl peroxide topical acne treatments is that they can be quite irritating, particularly to sensitive skin. Those fans of benzoyl peroxide will thus be pleased to learn that one skin care company that supplies prescription acne and skin care products is releasing a treatment with a delivery system that reduces benzoyl peroxide’s irritating effect.

Called NeoBenz Micro, this acne treatment will be available only by prescription, which is one drawback. On the plus side, it should mean that the acne sufferer is given the appropriate strength to their particular needs. It is aimed at helping people with mild to moderate acne, and comes in three strengths. These are 3.5% benzoyl peroxide, 5.5% benzoyl peroxide, and 8.5% benzoyl peroxide.

The difference in this treatment as compared to regular benzoyl peroxide solutions, is that it is a time release product. The method designed by SkinMedica, NeoBenz Micro’s developer, uses very small ’sponges’, called microsponges. These hold the active ingredient, in this case benzoyl peroxide, to be slowly released throughout the day. It means that though acne is kept in contact with benzoyl peroxide for the whole day, only small amounts of it are released onto the skin. These amounts are enough to be effective but far less irritating.

The side effects that this benzoyl peroxide acne treatment aims at reducing are rashes, skin soreness, and irritation. Aside from the unpleasant feeling these effects create, they unfortunately also reduce the effectiveness of benzoyl peroxide in clearing acne.

NeoBenz Micro is one example of a new trend in the pharmaceutical industry. It aims at taking existing products and developing new ways to package and deliver the active ingredients, thus effectively modernizing many treatments. The emphasis in the past had been more research oriented - finding new and more powerful treatments rather than fine tuning existing ones that were proven to work.

Other examples of this phenomena include converting treatments into sprays, with the effect of increasing absorption and convenience. MedPharm, a research contracting firm, is turning one eczema treatment and two acne treatments into sprays. These are still in the development stage, however.

Benzoyl peroxide is probably the most common anti-acne ingredient found in over the counter now gels, creams and washes his face.

This chemical mixture can be quite effective in the treatment of topical acne too mild in my opinion, but not just cut for the most severe acne that is often associated with hormonal imbalances or high stress levels among adults.

This most serious and “deeply rooted” in cystic acne is far more stubborn and usually requires a more aggressive oral treatment aimed at calming hormones and the cleaning of the skin from the inside of this, so to speak.

Benzoyl peroxide is a solution that acts as an antibacterial agent, and also helps prevent infection and growth of acne and cysts apply. The problem with this solution which is used in adults with acne is that the adults begin to experience different things in two ages: the wrinkles and skin thinner. Benzoyl peroxide, while somewhat useful as a treatment for acne teenagers, is too dry and too irritatin adult skin.

When I used the benzoyl peroxide, is effective only for me on a product for the treatment spot - Neutrogena acne spot treatment gel. Helped to dry the slick, and seems to keep it from the reform of a Whitehead quite effective. The drawbacks of benzoyl peroxide for me were: increased redness and irritation, excessive dryness and flaking. Often these side effects on profits, as dry, scaly, red skin can look just as bad if not worse than the acne itself!

This effect has actually exacerbated as older and I have tried to use benzoyl peroxide to treat my adult acne. I learned my lesson the hard way. A tube and dries out, irritated and “hard” feeling of skin later, I decided to ditch benzoyl peroxide for good in favor of more natural and mild acne cleaning products and even an oral natural acne treatment to help clarify my acne at its source.

Bottom line, this OTC acne medication can come in handy for treating certain spot, but I do not rely on it for severe acne or any type of cystic acne who need a more serious approach as the natural internal medicine (recommended) or even a dermatologist prescription.

It can be a challenge actually treating acne because of the different range of products that are available on the market. It is therefore essential that you have a basic understanding as to why acne develops in order to be able to treat it successfully.

In order to find the best product you need to decide what you hope that product will be able to do for your. And the best acne products is the one that is best suited for your skin and your body and is not going to lead any adverse reactions. As well as this, the product would need deal with the problem of acne, and not just the symptoms, so when you stop using the product, your acne will not appear once again.

There are certainly many types of products that are available and there are indeed many famous products that can be seen on the television and also advertised in magazines that many people are aware of. Some of these can actually be very effective in the treatment of acne providing of course that it is of a mild nature and not severe. But these products are not really going to do any more than actually surpass the problem of acne and just treat the actual symptoms and not help the actual problem of acne.

Plus you need to consider the cost of these acne products. It sometimes seems that most of these companies do increase the price of the products because they know that people will buy them, often in desperation, hoping that they have found the miracle treatment for acne that they have been searching for so long.

Acne is temporary, lasting from a few months to a few years, early treatment is compulsory to prevent scarring and dispigmentation, which, untreated, can persevere for life.

When acne scarring has arisen, quite a few treatments are available to improve the look of your skin. These include skin filler substances, laser phototherapy and conventional surgery. These can be used alone or in grouping.

Tagging of scars

It is very vital to select the right treatment for scarring. Visit your physician to identify the type of acne scars you have.

Three types of acne scars are:

Ice-pick: Ice-pick scars

Rolling: Rolling scars

These are caused by abnormal tough bands and are usually wider than 4 to 5 mm. Rolling scars are so-called because of the appearance they give to the overlying skin

Boxcar scars:

Boxcar scars measure more than 3 mm in diameter and appear similar to post chicken pox scars.

Increased or decreased skin pigmentation and persistent reddening of the skin also frequently occur following the development of acne.

Laser skin resurfacing:

Laser skin resurfacing get rid of, in a controlled way, the epidermal layer of the skin and part of the underlying dermal layer. The healing process results in smoother skin. Laser techniques should only be carried out by experienced Dermatologist. Acne will be cured with time be patient those awful scars will fade away with time.

There are many types of acne, but the most common form occurs during the teenage years when young adults experience a dramatic increase in hormone levels. These hormones signal the skin glands to produce more oil. When this oil mixes with dead cells, it can clog pores in the skin and trap bacteria as well. The result is often a raised tissue area characterized by swelling, redness, and pus. These bumps are also known as pimples, the symptom most commonly associated with acne.

Acne can occur anywhere on the face, neck, back, or chest, and severe cases can lead to social alienation, or emotional and physical scars. Although mild acne can not be entirely prevented, you can take three steps to minimize its impact.

Gently Cleanse Your Skin: Each day, gently wash your skin with lukewarm water. Avoid scrubbing your face too hard or washing it too often. Doing so can make your acne worse. Also avoid using skin and hair care products that contain excess oil. Instead, use water-based skin care soaps that gently cleanse your skin, such as Neutrogena or Dove.

Apply Topical Ointments: At least once daily, but no more than three times a day, apply a nonprescription topical ointment to problematic areas. One of the best products is Clearasil because it contains both benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Benzoyl peroxide works to unplug clogged pores, while salicylic acid helps clear up blemishes by causing the top layer of skin to peel. Products that contain tea tree oil (commonly found in gels, creams, and lotions) or alpha-hydroxy acid are also desirable. However, remember that if you use a product too often, your acne can get worse. So confine your applications to less than three times per day unless otherwise directed by a doctor.

Avoid the Following: Make sure to avoid the following acts which can trigger acne flare-ups: overexposure to the sun, the wearing of tight-fitting items that rub against the skin, excess stress, constant touching of the face, working with oils or harsh chemicals, excessive sweating, hair hanging in your face, or the use of hair care products that contain oils. Also avoid squeezing pimples. Squeezing pimples can result in an infection and/or long-term scaring.

While mild acne is annoying, it will eventually pass. Most people will outgrow acne by their early-twenties, so there is reason to be optimistic. Make each of the above steps part of your daily routine, and you should be able to control your acne. However, those with more severe cases of acne should consult a dermatologist.
